Hi,

I've got a Win2K machine wusing a dial-up connection that cannot access the
Internet. The connection is enabled & the little computers appear in my
system tray but neither Internet Explorer nor Outlook can make use of the
connection. I have tried several ways of overcoming this, all of which have
ended in failure. Can anybody tell me what might be causing this and suggest
a way of fixing it?

Thanks

Sam

When you're connected to your dialup, go to a command prompt and type

ipconfig /all

Try to ping your default gateway (router)'s IP address - if successful,
Try to ping your DNS server's IP address - if successful,
Try to ping www.yahoo.com

If all this works, perhaps you need to check in control panel | internet
options | connection. I'd use 'never dial a connection' and always dial up
manually, if it were me.

Is this something that just started or is this a new installation?

Any error messages?

If not, please describe what happens when you launch either application and try
to access the net.

You stated Outlook but do you mean Outlook Express? There is a difference.

Describe exactly what you have already tried, e.g., run anti-virus and/or
spyware utilities, verify your configuration browser/e-mail settings, etc.

Hello
Can you give us the error you get, when you try to access the web page in
internet explorer like www.microsoft.com.
