Intermittent Windows XP Ding Default Beep

Hello. I have a problem regarding the Default Beep of the Windows XP sound
scheme (control panel> sounds, speech and audio devices> sounds and audio
devices (and then the "Sounds" tab of "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties"))

It sounds approximately every minute. It is extremely annoying.

I only just restored my computer to factory settings 2 days ago, and I
downloaded the Windows updates last night. I never had this problem before
last night, so I suspect that the update is the cause. I may be wrong,
however.

Is there anything I can do to stop the incessant "ding"ing? I've actually
now changed the sound from "Windows XP Ding" to the slightly less annoying
"Windows XP Menu Command", which is a clicking noise.

I have no idea why it does it. It does it when I'm connected or disconnected
to the internet, and it carries on sounding even when I disable the programs
in my taskbar. I have restarted my computer, but the noise starts again as
soon as my computer comes back on.

You can find out what the 'ding' means by going to Control Panel > Sounds
and Audio Devices > Sounds tab. Basically, a program is trying to get your
attention. If it's not a program you have open, then it's a program running
invisibly in the background - which could include a virus or spyware.

Hello. The sound represents "Default Beep", not a critical beep or anything.
Is there any way to find out what program is using "Default Beep"?

The default beep could be used by dozens of applications on your computer -
there's no practical way to determine applications are using it. It's
obviously coming from a program that is currently open. That may be a
program you have opened, a program running in the background, or a virus or
spyware.

If you still hear the 'ding' when you have no programs open, it's either
coming from a program running in the background, or a virus or spyware. Your
next step is to close all programs you have running in the background. If
you still hear the 'ding' it's coming from a virus or spyware.
