Annoying beep from tower

Hello- I hope someone can help me with this....I am getting an annoying beep
sound that is definitely coming from my tower. It happens mainly when I have
pop-ups from my ACT! program, but also when anything else pops up as a
reminder like a windows update, etc.

I should say also that I just reformatted my hard drive yesterday, so I have
very few programs on my computer right now. Also, I disabled all sounds in
the control panel>sounds and also have turned down my speakers all the way
but the beep persists. It happens about every 60 seconds.

Ideas?

That's exactly how it sounds, but it's only when something pops up. It seems
unlikely that there would be internal problems since I just reformatted my
hard drive less than 24 hours ago, don't you think? Or maybe not...
