After reinstalling windows XP on a PC and adding a CD writer drive in
the process, this PC now makes beeps coming from inside the tower,
where it would once make a "windows critical sound" or whatever it's
called, which used to come from the speakers. It's internal, and it's
loud and annoying and I can't figure out why it's doing it. It's not
normal, it sets inbetween several others with XP loaded and they don't
do this. Is there some simple setting I'm missing.

It's not that, it's beeping during regular windows operations, such as
shutdown, it will beep when the window pops up to ask if you really
want to perform this operation.
