Intermittent blue screen errors on server

The file server in our Accounts Dept has a blue screen message, but is
intermittent. The problem tends to show itself when many accounts staff are
running intensive reports on the server.

What sort of problem am I checking for and how do I go about doing this?

This is a STOP error, or Blue Screen of Death.
It usually indicates a problem with a device driver.
( Although it could be hardware. )

You need to:

1) Write down the exact details from the Blue Screen of Death,

2) Determine exactly what OS version is running on the server,

3) Post the details from (1) into a newsgroup for (2).

These details will give an insight as to what is falling over.
When it falls over, is it always the same error message, or does it change?
( look carefully. )

In the meantime, on the server, look in the event log for anything
interesting.
Also check in Device Manager to see if there's any obvious complaints about
the hardware or drivers.
 
It might help if we knew what the error message is.
