Intellitype software causing lag

Hey guys and gals; I tried to find the correct newsgroup and this is where I
ended up, so please bear with me.

I recently formatted because of a bad HDD and have WinXP Pro SP2. When I
play World of Warcraft in windowed mode (which means that the game only takes
up a portion of the screen instead of 100% of the screen) the video will lag
very much if I press any button that causes intellitype software to generate
a pop-up notification on the screen (such as Num Lock, Caps Lock, Volume up
or down). If I turn up the Anti-Aliasing on my video card settings to a
higher setting, the lag becomes much much worse. However, if i play when the
game takes up 100% of the screen (like any normal game would run) I get zero
lag / chop when I press the aforementioned buttons on my keyboard no matter
how strong the Anti-Aliasing may be. I've tried setting World of Warcraft on
high priority and it doesn't help. Any other suggestions?

P.S. just wanted to mention that I didn't have this problem before the
format and I'm using the same intellitype software as before.

Thats odd because between intellitype and intellipoint, type has yet to ever
cause any problems. You dont mention what version youre useing, try diffrent
version than what you use,thiers.4.1,5.0,5.2,5.3,and 5.5.Go to microsofts
hardw-
are home page, the downloads are available.

I have version 5.5 and tried out 5.2 to see if it would work. Same result.
It's not "the software" really. It's the fact that it's drawing that box to
show you ur volume went up or down...or that caps lock is on. when it does
that it really lags the game alot when Anti-Aliasing is high

You say that you are using XP Pro\SP2. But how much RAM do you have or require to run that game in that mode when you have it set to Anti-Aliasing at a higher rate

I have 1 Gig of PC3200 RAM dual channel - P4 3.0 ghz HT 800 FSB with an ATI
X800 XT PE AGP video card. when i'm running World of Warcraft, i usually
have 250 MB of ram free while playing. I have a free ram monitor and the
amount of free ram doesn't bottom out or anything while the pop up
notifications occur. Also, i have winamp that has the same type of popup
notification (display author and song title) and it does the same thing with
Winamp. The only thing significant difference in my system since the format
was that i installed the new Catalyst drivers (upgraded from 5.9 catalysts to
the 6.2). Any thoughts?

Hi Sixstringr
Not being funny, but have you tried any of the gaming forums?
They may be able to help you, if not here.

Not of yet, but i guess i will since you suggested it. I thought it could be
resolved here since it seems to be an issue with priority. The full screen
play doesn't lag because it doesn't concentrate much on renedering the
background graphics (including pop ups). I guess i will look elsewhere
