Intellimouse PS2

I am looking for help with why my mouse keeps freezing up and sometimes just
acting on its own. I have an older Dell PC with Windows XP home. The mouse is
an Intellipoint 1.3a PS2. I have noticed that the problems occur more often
when playing games. The only way I can get it back is to unplug the PC and
the mouse for a few minutes. This works sometimes for days or minutes.
Thankyou

Unplugging / plugging any PS/2 mouse / keyboard MUST be down when the
power to the PC is turned off. PS/2 ports are extremely sensitive to
the power changes and are fragile (can be broken.)

Have you installed the Intellipoint 7 software?

Try booting a Linux live CD and playing with that for a while and see if
the same happens. If not, then you can blame your windows system - not
the hardware.

Do a check for spyware, in particular keystroke loggers.

The power was off when I unplugged.  Where would I find the software upgrade?

www.microsoft.com/hardware

You will be able to follow the Download section and download the
latest Intellipoint 7 drivers. You need to uninstall all previous
versions before installing the newest ones.
