"Insufficient system resources"

Twice now, when i go to use my email or internet explorer
etc. a box comes up which says "insufficient resources
exist to complete the required service". What does this
mean and what do i do? There are no resources being used.
I am defraged, updated etc. Please help. This is Windows
xp three months old

update virus scanner and run full scan.

run a spyware remover like spybot from security.kolla.de
run from cmd prompt sfc /purgecache and then sfc /scannow
