I have a Dell laptop that's a few years old with Win 98
installed but cannot get it to boot due to a missing file
(msvcrt.dll). Unfortunately I misplaced the win 98
installation discs to reinstall it. I can only find the
Boot Disc. My son bought me Win XP Home Ed as a gift. Can
I install this over what's on the machine? How do I go
about it? Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Yes, you can use the XP Home CD to either do a clean install (recommended)
OR an upgrade from 98 to XP.

Just pop the CD in the drive, restart your computer making sure that boot
from CD is first option in BIOS and go from there.

Good luck,

Ray
