Installtion problems with SP2

N

Neravine

Ever since I installed SP2 no instalations are working,
whenver they get to "publishing product information" they
get interupted and they dont finish. And now once I've
uninstalled SP2 I cant install Rome: Total War because
the installer keeps getting shut down before the install
even starts.

This is happeneing on BOTH my PCs, one is running xp HE
and one is running xp proffesional. Is this some kind of
virus or is it time to consider another operating system?

Which installers are effected, Installsheld, MSI etc?

I've had a look around on the net for the last 20 minutes and not found
anything that seems to be relevant. Since it's happening on both your
machines it seems to be a little odd. So you'll need to look at what
software is common between the two machines, virus scanners and other such.

Also make sure to shut down everything else when installing software, just
clicking close on a virus scanners icon in the tray won't shut it down,
you'll need to actually disable it - you may have to use Task Manager to
kill it if there's no obvious way.

THe program affected seems to be installsheild, and the
games that wont install so far are Rome Total War, Dawn
of War, Tribes Vengance beta, and the demos of all three
of those. The anti-cirus I have for both computers is
Panda Anti-virus but shutting it down completley doesnt
change anything.

I have this problem as well, just bought the game and it wont work, and to
add insult to injury, the computer wont give me access to un-install service
pack 2.
I will explain what happens, the installshield loads as normal, then a
screen comes up, saying: 1607:Unable to install InstallShield Scripting
Runtime.
Further investigation reveals this is an error occuring on Windows 2003
servers using Virtual Windows 2004, i have windows XP with service pack 2, so
what the hell is going on here!

Your best solution would be to repair Windows using these instructions:

How to repair Windows XP:
Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
