Installshield???

R

RIck M.

Please, somebody help. I've been trying to install "Star
Wars Galaxies" on my computer. Icontinue to get
a "Catastrophic failure" error and the installation
stops. I copied the files from the (3) disks and tried
loading from the "setup.inx" folder. Well, I'm getting a
message that says "Windows does not recognize this
extension". As a matter of fact, windows does not
recognize the "setup.BOOT" file either. The "Install"
file does not work, and of course, the "Installshield
Setup Launcher" file does not install the game either.
Please help! I have no idea what might be going on. Is
there any way I can uninstall Installshield, download a
fresh copy, and reinstall it? Please help!!!!!!!

Have you tried installing from the CD and received this error or did you
simply copy the files from the CD to your hard drive and try running setup?

Make sure "Star Wars Galaxies" is compatible with XP. Go to the
Lucas Arts web page and contact support if you have any doubt or look
in your instruction manual that came with the game.

I tried both ways. I appreciate your quick response.
I've been dealing with this issue for weeks
now. "Galaxies" is optimized for XP and Direct X9. I
run XP and am updated to Direct X9. "Galaxies"
recommends that you shut down anti-virus protection to
load, which I have. Either way, from CD or hard drive, I
run into the same error messages.

First, be sure your antivirus software has the latest definitions and run a
virus scan.

If your system is clear of viruses, open Control Panel, open System, go to
the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery, remove the
check from "Automatically Restart" under System Failure. This will cause
the system to blue screen instead of restarting on errors and the
information on the blue screen may give a clue as to the source of the
issue.

Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for
errors corresponding to the crash, double click the error, the information
contained within may give a clue as to the
source of the problem.

Assuming you have an XP CD and not a recovery CD, place the XP CD in the
drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility,"
the report it generates may point to problem hardware or software on your
system. If you do not have an XP CD, you can download this application
known as the Upgrade Advisor from the following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/upgrading/advisor.asp
Note: If you have access to a broadband connection it might be best to
download using that as this is a rather large download.

Check for the latest drivers for your hardware, especially your graphics
card and soundcard and all peripherals connected to your system. No not use
Windows Update for this, go to the device manufacturer's web sites and if
you install updated drivers, ignore the message about drivers being unsigned
by Microsoft.
