Hi there - warning - I'm 'semi' and I use that term lightly... technical... I
got a new laptop (Compaq 8510p) and trying to install XP on it and I'm
getting the blue screen as it finished (what seemed like) loading everything
and when it goes to starting Windows, get the blue screen with these errors:

"a problem has been detected and Window has been shut down to preven damage
to your computer - STOIP: 0x0000007E (OxC0000005, 0xF748E0BF, OxF78DA208,
OxF78D9F08) then it has pci.sys - address F748E0BF base at F7487000,
datestams 3b7d855c"

This PC is cleaned so can't even get to DOS... can someone help?
Many thanks!

Okay, I'll bite...

Why do you need to install Windows on a new computer?

If you're semi-technical - and you're using the term lightly - why are
you attempting a highly technical procedure? (Better to let a
professional do it.)

Did you buy this with Vista preinstalled or, since there were downgrade
rights, XP preinstalled?

Why are you not using the recovery disks you made when you first turned on
the computer (or that came with the machine)?

You need to provide some background here in order for us to help you.
