Hi all, I have just had a 160 gb internal extra drive fitted, is it ok
to install xp on this, I have a dell that had xp pre installed but also
had a cd with what i assume to be xp in the box for bakup purposes, is
there anything i should be wary of or will it be straight forward?
many thanks
Paul

Actually you can put C: on the new drive w/o the normal installation headache.
Simply set the new drive as slave to C: on the same IDE cable, then in xp
format
the hd,once thru go to run,type:XCOPY C:\*.* D:\ /c/h/e/k/r Agree to all
in the
DOS window, once its thru,C: is now on new hd.Also,D: being new hd,if asigned
diffrent letter, then use that letter. Also, set jumper pins on the hds
accordingly...

Andrew, please go away.

XCOPY will not repeat will not do a proper clone of a boot drive.
Period.

Is this the CD from Dell that came with your computer?

Your license from Dell (c:\windows\system32\eula.txt) indicates quite
clearly that you are allowed to install a *single* copy of the
software on one computer only. As your Windows is already installed
that constitutes the single copy that you are licensed for. The CD
is for repair and recovery purposes, not for an additional
installation.

Good luck
