Installing without losing everything on hard disk.

Hi,

Can I install a new copy of Win 2000 Pro over my current OS of Win 2000
Server, so that I have a completely clean Win 2000 Pro OS -- I no longer
want 2000 Server -- but without losing all my user files that's on the
hard disk?

Obviously I know all my software will need to be reinstalled, etc. I'm
just hoping that I can just leave all my docs, work, mp3s, etc on the hard
disk without losing it all. --Everything essential is backed-up but
there's a lot of non-essential stuff that I'd like to be still there but
would take eons to backup. (None of it's stored in 'Documents and
Settings' so that being overwritten is not a problem.)

If so how do I do this? Any special process needed?

Thanks,

MS

You can not install Win 2k pro "over" Win 2k server.

Format and reinstall.

put the drive in another NT/XP machine
and delete all the stuff you don't want
& keep all your data in a folder or two...
then put the drive back
and do a clean install of win2k
***be sure NOT to format, but leave the file system intact***
