Installing Windows XP

I reformated my hard drive and attempted to install Windows XP from the
origional disk. This is Windows XP Home + service pack 2. Ver 2002.
I got a message that I cannot install from this disk in the DOS envirement.
I then installed Windows ME and attempted to install this disk from there and
it bagan the install, took my id number, and started to (Prepare
Installation). It gets about 1/2 way through this process and then either
freezes uo or I get a blue screen telling me to reinstall. I've tried this
several times and now when I attempt to install from ME I get another message
telling me tha a file is missing or corrupt (Windows root\system32\hal.dll.)
When I reformated my computer I was on A: and typed in Format C: and it
reformated/
What am I doing wrong? How can I load Windows XP from the disk immediatly
after formating?
Thanks

Boot from the XP CD. You'll have to configure your systems BIOS
to look for your CD drive first when booting. Once you start
the installation from the CD you can format your drive. Take a
look at this article for more information.
