Can't find my thread:

Tried everything to install Windows XP Pro SP1 OEM onto primary partition,
C::

Deleting Windows.
BOOT.ini and HAL.dll - several websites

Solution:
Use Heron's Boot CD to partition drives (increase D:, decrease C:)
Copy all my data to D:
Use Heron's Boot CD to delete primary partition. Create partition and format
as FAT32.
Boot off CD. Use BootCfg and FixBoot.
This found drive E instead of D (Windows wouldn't boot).
Installed XP Pro Upgrade and this also found second partition as E: (CD-ROM
as D: for some reason)
Use Heron's Boot CD to unhide second partition
Now I'm in the process of re-installing everything.

Your thread is scattered far and wide in this newsgroup. Let's
get back to the basic facts. First, just what are you trying to
install? What type of Windows XP cdrom is being used --- retail
full version or upgrade; generic OEM version or branded OEM, etc.?
(I suspect that a branded OEM version of Windows XP cdrom is being
used, due to the persistent hal.dll error.)

Second, how is Windows XP being installed? The preferable route
is to a clean, hard drive, with the computer booting off the
Windows XP installation cdrom. There is really no need to pre-
partition the hard drive; once the system has been installed,
Disk Management can be used to set up the extended partition
(with logical drives).

Bring us up-to-date and let's continue using just one thread.

See below: I was using the XP Pro OEM SP1 - but can't find the CD. I also
own the upgrade (pre SP). So all working now (almost).
