XP installation stops after reboot

I'm trying to install XP in the 2nd partition (D:) on a drive that has
Vista on the 1st partition (C:).

I put the CD in and it seems to go OK, I select the 2nd partition and
it copies all the files across.

When it reboots, though, nothing happens, no OS boots up, it just
stops after "Boot from CD/DVD....."

I've tried repairing the Vista startup and using VistaBootPRO to get
both Vista and XP in the Vista boot menu. In this case, Windows XP
doesn't boot, complaining about missing \ntldr.

I've tried using the XP recovery console, fixmbr, fixboot c:, fixboot
d:, still no go.

Where do I go from here?

Try setting the BIOS to cdrom 1st boot priority,xp partition 2nd,& vista 3rd
till xp is installed. Also,in xp cd boot menu, you must 1st delete the
partition on
2nd partition (xp),create one,then let xp format & install.

Best to post to a Vista newsgroup for this question such as

SOLVED!

Here's the process I went through to make it work, for any others who
may have similar issues. Some steps can probably be taken out, but I
thought I'd list it exactly as it happened:

Starting state: 1 HDD, 2 partitions, Vista on C:, D: formatted, but
empty
1. Install XP on D:, it copies files on to HDD, but installation stops
after reboot.
2. Repair startup using Vista install disk, and boot into Vista.
3. Use VistaBootPRO to add Windows XP to Vista Boot Manager, but this
entry doesn't work because it points to D: and complains about missing
\ntldr.
4. Insert XP install disk, delete partition D: and install XP on it.
Once again, installation stops after reboot.
5. Repair startup using Vista install disk, and boot into Vista.
6. Use EasyBCD to remove Windows XP entry in Vista Boot Manager (it
now points to deleted partition so won't work anyway).
7. Use EasyBCD to add Windows XP entry in Vista Boot Manager, which
points to C: (not D:)
8. Reboot, choose Windows XP in the Vista Boot Manager and continue
installation! No more stuffing around required.

Done
