change which os handles booting

I have XP on the primary partition and a beta copy of Vista on the 2nd
partition. Currently Vista, installed second, controls the booting sequence.
I want to uninstall Vista though and change the boot record so XP handles
the booting. Is there an easy way to do this? Would 'fixboot' or 'fixmbr'
from the recovery console do it?

Just run msconfig.exe and click "Set as Default".

That won't work because I am only using the XP OS, can't log into Vista. And
Vista has control of the booting.

The simplest solution to this issue is to download, install in
XP, and run this program.

VistaBootPRO 3.3
http://www.vistabootpro.org/

Once you've launched the program, click on System Bootloader.
Select "Windows Legacy Bootloader".
Select "All Drives".
Hit the "Install Bootloader" button.

Restart your computer.

The alternative procedure is to boot with your XP installation
CD into the Recovery Console and run the fixboot C: command.

To start the computer and use the Recovery Console
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...docs/en-us/recovery_run_console.mspx?mfr=true

Fixboot

Good luck

Boot to your Windows XP installation.

Insert your Vista DVD in the DVD drive.

At a Command Prompt issue the following command:

D:\boot\bootsect /nt52 c:

Where D: is the drive letter for the DVD drive.

The same can be done without the Vista DVD by opening a Command Prompt
while in Windows XP and navigating to the \Boot folder (on the System
drive) and issuing the bootsect /nt52 c: command from the \boot folder.
