Installing Win XP on Laptop

Jus!

Hi guys.

Quick question - is there any major differences i should take note of when
installin Win XP home on a laptop? Is it pretty much the same as on a pc?

I must format the HDD too. Win XP installation does that during the
installation right?

Thanks
Jus

Hi Jus,

It's not significantly different. Just make sure you have any needed drivers
for the laptop from the system maker before you begin. And yes, at the
initial part of setup you can format before installing.

The one thing you have to watch for on laptops is proprietary hardware,
needing a customised version of he OS to match. Compaq in particular is
notorious. Other than that it is just the same - you will need to be
able to boot the XP CD, and carry on; it will undertake partitioning and
formatting the disk as needed.

Note that you *do* need to have a separately licensed copy of windows -
the concession in Office that you can buy a copy for a desktop machine
and also install it on the owners personal laptop does *not* apply in
any version of Windows.
