Installing Programs general question

I have a program on my desktop which I would like to install on my laptop.
However, I have lost the installation disc somewhere. Can anyone tell me
how to do this? If I just copy all of the files in my program files folder
to a program files folder on my laptop will it work? I am thinking that if
I do this none of the registry information will be there.

Networking the two computers will not work in this case, because I need to
use my laptop in the field.

Any assistance will be gratefully appreciated

If networking is not possible, then you have a couple of alternatives. One,
is to
redownload the program if it is freeware/shareware and copy/burn it to a CD.
Two, buy another copy - now if the application has an installation key like
from
MS, you can get a free replacement CD:
