Installing new camera in "My Computer"

How do I get my new digital camera (Canon A70) to appear in "My Computer - My Digital Camera"? I've installed it successfully in "Scanners and Cameras" but if I click on "My Digital Camera" then it says "connection error"
 
Turn on the camera, either plug it in to an AC outlet or insert batteries.
When it activates you should hear a ding-gong and it will list.
 
That doesn't do it, I'm afraid. The camera registers and I can download photos with the Scanners and Cameras wizard, but "My Digital Camera" does nothing.

I would just expect that clicking on "My Digital Camera" would open my digital camera. Or, Windows being a Microsoft product, am I being naive?
 
No, not naive, but uninformed. Read the brochure and the txt file that accompanied
your camera for proper installation instructions. If that fails, you can contact tech
support online or by Canon's 800 number.
