HELP - My Win XP doesn't recognize my Canon Digital Camera

Hi there,

I've just got a new Canon PowerShot SD500 (or IXUS 700 in Europe). After a
few test shots with the camera I try to connect it to my laptop following the
instructions included in the camera documentation. These are:
1. Install the CD software
2. Restart the computer
3. Connect the camera to the USB port
4. Switch on the camera on Play mode

After that an icon of new hardware appears in the taskbar as "Canon Digital
Camera", but it turns to "Fixed Digital Camera" and the wizard to install nwe
hardware is started. After a short search the wizard ask for ptpusd.dll,
which is not in the SW CD nor my computer.

Tried to uninstall and reinstall the software. No success.

My laptop: IBM ThinkPad T41 with USB 2.0. Win XP Pro SP1.
The camera has full batery.

Any ideas?

Thanks in avance.

Hello,

It could be that that dll is missing or corrupt or the Canon software setup
just doesn't know the right place to find it. I would first recommend
installing SP2. Then try to install the camera again. If that still asks
for the dll, point it towards your windows\system32 directory.

Let us know how that goes. If it still is not effective, someone on the
forum should be able to offer suggestions on manually reinstalling certain
hardware devices such as the camera or maybe the USB port driver.

Thanks,
