Canon camera not showing as a drive

I have a Canon Powershot S80. When connected to my computer (XP OS) , the
camera does not show as a drive, just as ' Canon camera', in My Computer or
in the system information area. So I have no way of stopping the camera
before disconnecting - the "remove hardware safely " system is not active
and there is no "stop" command when right clicking on the camera.

Any ideas? Is it safe to just pull the cable when I am finished
downloading? I do not want to damage the camera.

Thanks.

I would suggest that you purchase
a USB card reader. Anyway...if
you are positive that your images
are fully downloaded...unplugging
the USB connection shouldn't damage
anything.
