Hi

Is it possible to install a network printer (Local, TCP/IP Port) without
having the actual Printer Device On Line? How? I have tried it but got an
error message saying can't find the printer. There is no PC sharing this
Printer Device. The device is a HP LJ 1320n with RJ-45 port and fixed IP
address.

Thanks in advantage!

Yes. I do this all the time when preparing laptops for a school laptop
program. First install the printer drivers on the workstation. Depending
on the installer, you may be given the opportunity to check a box that
says to install without the printer connected. Follow any HP-specific
instructions you got with the printer or find them on HP's website for
your model.

After the drivers are installed, the generic routine is to go to the
Printers applet and Add New Printer. The connection is Local Printer and
uncheck the search for printers box. Then "Make a new port" and choose
Standard TCP/IP. I am paraphrasing but it will be obvious to you what to
click. The TCP/IP wizard will open and you can enter the printer's IP
address. At the end of the process, make sure you uncheck "print a test
page".

The HP installer may do all this for you. HP also makes a very useful
Install Network Printer Wizard:
