installing driver problem

Hi, I'm trying to install a driver so that my computer will recognise an
ethernet connection. I dowloaded the driver, but everytime I try to install,
I get this message; "the specified location does not contain information
about your hardware"
In the device manager, I've got 'Network Adapters' (with the USB modem I'm
using at the moment) and after that 'Other Devices' with 'ethernet
controller' (the icon has an exclamation mark on it) is this the one that I
need to update?

I did use this ethernet connection before, but had to use the restore disk
and now I've got this problem.

Can anyone help?

Download the driver from the OEM site, whether it be HP, Dell, or
wherever, not MS Updates. It'll probably need to be run after downloading.

Yes, that must be the one that needs a driver.

The driver is from the OEM site :(
Do you mean use the run command rather than the device manager to install
the driver? Sorry if that's a dumb question!

It depends on the extension of the download.. I just thought that the
driver may not have been seen if, say e.g., the drivers needed to be
extracted first. The site probably had instructions on how to install
the drivers, right?
