Installing Additional Components

When I originally set up XP Home, I didn't add the fax service because I didn't need it at the time. A couple of weeks ago, I found a need for it and installed it through the "Install Aditional Components" from my XP CD. However, after it was installed I noticed that my calculator, character map, and XP games was missing. I've tried on 3 different occasions to reinstall these components from the XP CD without success. All necessary boxes are checked as needed. Dialog box shows files being deleted and added, but the components don't show up in programs. I've tried through the CD and through the control panel "add/remove additional components". Tried with and without restarts. Nothing has worked. I can live without the XP games, but I really need the character map and calculator. Any ideas are appreciated!!

Both character map and calculator can be found in system32. Find the icons
and r-click and choose "send to desktop" from there you can move the
shortcuts wherever you wish.
"Start>Run" type "system32"(no quotes). The rest is up to you.

Sorry, no answer here but I have had similar problems to above only worse.
I tried to add FAX, Internet Information Services (IIS), Management and
Monitoring Tools, Message Queuing, and remove Windows Messenger in Windows
Components. The result was that the system could not even restart. The
System Tray could not complete and stayed busy. I finally gained access to
System Restore and restored the system to an earlier time.

I would suggest: In the future, do one thing at a time. It is much easier to
take care of one problem than ten at once.
