Missing Window Components after SP3 in Win Xp Pro

Hi,

After recently updating my Win Xp Pro with all the latest critical patches,
I find that Fax, Entertainment (Sound Recorder..etc) and Calculator are
missing from my computer.

I try to re-install by Adding to Windows Components and set-up seems to
install the missing components but I am unable to find them. Example, my
Printer folder shows Fax as a printer momentarily during installation but on
completion, I do not find it listed in my installed printers. I have Adobe
(default printer), HP2300 and Microsoft Image writers listed in my printer
folder.

Since mine is an IBM, OEM Win xP Pro installation, I even tried using
another Win Xp CD to install these and added these components but still I do
not have them.

Would greatly appreciate any help,
TIA,
MPM

Do these problems persist after uninstalling WinXP SP3?

How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 3 from your computer:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249

WinXP SP3 - Read all prerequisites for a successful (re)installation
http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldro...requisites-for-a-successful-installation.aspx

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada. Go to
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=1173 | select "Windows
XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3"

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed info.

I removed WinXP Pro SP3 and re-booted succesfully. Then, installed all the '
critial ' updates, barring SP3.

I am still back to where I started. The following components under '
Accessories ' are missing, though their folder is available but empty.

1. Fax Tools.
2. Entertainment
3. Calculator

As I have Think Pad Recovery CD, I tried to add the missing components from
another WIN Xp Home Retail CD. It seems to install but are not installed.

Would welcome any thoughts on this.

TIA,
MPM
