Installing a scanner

I have a P4 2.6 computer, I have tried installing a Acer
Prisa parallel port scanner. With every driver that I try
to set up the scanner with sets up a hardware device in
the System device manager list under imaging devices, I
now have 6 devices listed and cannot remove any of them
through the uninstall command. When I restart the
computer I get a few "New hardware found please insert
the disc to set it up", if I do this, again, I will have
7 scanners that are not reconised by the computer. Shell
i buy a USB scanner and will this get rid of the other 6
if installed.
Any ideas

Did you check in the Bios to see if the Parallel Port was enabled?

Get a USB scanner - yes! Parallel drivers aren't supported that well any
longer (like serial digital cameras). I definitely recommend you get a USB
or 1394 scanner. Your scan will be so much faster and they are cheap today.
