installed directx 9.0c but dxdiag shows 9.0b ???

I installed directx 9.0c but dxdiag shows 9.0b what gives? Is there a newer
version of dxdiag? The one I'm using is: 5.03.2600.2180

It keeps showing the following errors in dxdiag:

d3d8.dll & d3dim700.dll It says they are older versions and I need to
update. I then went to Microsoft site and installed 9.0c and ran dxdiag
again. It stil showed the same error.

any help is greatly appreciated!

The DxDiag I'm running has the same version number and it lists as Dx9.0c

My d3d8.dll is listed as version 5.03.2600.2180 04 Aug 04
My d3dim700.dll is listed as version 5.03.2600.2180 04 Aog 04

Neither is listed as the incorrect version.

MY dates are different then yours:

It shows d3d8.dll dated 7/9/2004
It shows d3dim700.dll dated 5/30/2003

How can I update these files or perhaps I can delete them somewhere and then
reinstall 9.0c??

any ideas...

If you run a search for these files you will see that they are in
different versions in different folders. You could try to copy the
newest version into all the other folders. Caution!! I would suggest
that you first backup the older versions - copy them into 'my documents'
or even better rename them (d3d8_old.dll for example).

hello,

i am trying to run Civil 4 and I have tried everything I could possibly
think of to try to get the correct version of DirectX 9.0c installed. I run
dxdiag and it's still showing up as 9.0b. Civil4 did come with DirectX 9.0c
but it's still not installing correctly. Any help would be appreciated and
would save me $35 (Microsoft support).

Hi Sean,

You could reinstall Service Pack 2 from Windows Updates or
Windows download site, and then upgrade your DirectX to 9.0c.

Hey,

Thanks for your reply. I have SP2 but for some reason XP still wants to
install DirectX 9.0b. I tried calling MS support but I only had two options:
visit this website or pay $35 for the support. I also called Take Two Games
(the developer) but htey weren't able to help because DIrectX is an MS
product. Any other help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
