installation problems

I'm trying to install 2K Pro on a system and keep running into the same error code and haven't been able to get around it. I've done some searching and can find no solution to this. So I'm hoping someone here can help. This is the error I keep getting

File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 4
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit

I thought that if i copied the entire CD to hard disk that I might be able to run setup from there, but, have been unable to get it to successfully copy the whole thing, only certain files
If anyone can be of assistance, it'd be greatly appreciated

Done several formats. NTFS and FAT 32. Same thing on each one. Tried different memory modules and bus speed settings to see if it would alleviate the problem. But, to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated.
