Installation nightmare

I don't know where to begin, every version of the SP2 file I try and install
with either stops during the installation with an error message or part way
through the extraction process stop with a corrupt file message. I even tried
slipstreaming the sp2 with my original disk no dice there even. I do not
understand whats going on, I have never had this much trouble before, I am
beginning to suspect the AGP driver might be the problem, but I don't know
what to do to fix it, the setupapi makes reference to this very problem.

Needless to say I kept at it and after solving many of the problems I have
encountered I now have a new issue that seems to have crept up. I have
researched around and found a .bat file on this website:

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#Cannot_install_Service_Pack_2

While at first it seemed to work, new error message inspite of all of it by
shutting down the cyrtopgraphic services or whatever they are called and
deleting a catroot file int he systems folder the installer got to the point
just after the actual installation starts after backing up the registry -
the installer quit and a dialogue box states that it cannot update the
catalogue.

the setupapi.log file has the following error:

#E358 An unsigned or incorrectly signed file
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\SysSetup.Dll" for driver "Intel(R) 82815 Processor to
AGP Controller - 1131" blocked (server install). Error 0x800b0100: No
signature was present in the subject.
#E161 Processing of call to class installer failed. Error 0x800b0100: No
signature was present in the subject.

This driver is from XP, not from the manufacturer, how can this be
unsigned???????

Anyone successfully solved the problems and actually have it working??

Any advice is would be appreciated.

All in all I have reinstalled XP several times this is getting tiring. I
could had XP Pro
installed and working fine on my system without the SP2 however there are a
couple of apps that I need to upgrade that require me to have SP1 at the very
least, so I figured why not just install sp2 and get it over with but I
cannot seem to get it to cooperate.

Since I have a MSDN susbscription I have XP pro with SP1a already
incorporated, well that installation has black-screened during the install
and then later after the first reboot and now just hangs during the bootup. I
so don't know what to do, anyone have any suggestions, all the hardware in
the system is installed properly, I can login to the system in safe mode but
I cannot boot normally. In safe mode they I installed the drivers to all the
hardware but that only made things worse, now it doesn't get past the XP logo.

Please anyone help
George.

Thank you for responding, I was able to successfully install sp1a when I
found an KB article that described how XP has trouble with i815 intel chipset
with Legacy support for USB enabled. Even though the option was set to auto,
this still caused XP to hickup the installation after disabling the Legacy
support I complete the installation. II will now attemtp SP2 after ghosting
and backing up everything. There is one issue though that I would like to
know, is there a list of what files are contained in a .cab, reason being is
that if you cannot get into a system from the recovery concole you could
obviously extract the file or files so that the system can boot again. Not
knowing what cabs have what file is the problem - also is there some utility
that you can use to see the cabs and the files contained with them from the
command prompt. Either way is good.
