2nd post (new information)

Problems, problem, and dilemmas and so forth.................PLEASE HELP!

I'm running XP and I had SP3 before I attempted to do a repair of Windows.
During install it asked for the 'ASMS ON WIN PRO SERVICE SP3' NEEDED. It ask
to (type the path to where the file is located). I have an XP Home Edition
disk and my XP PRO install disk does not have the files for SP3. Now I
cannot perform any other function but install.

question: Is there a place where I can download in Microsoft whatever I need
on to a CD. insert and restart the system then type the drive letter when
asked, to where the disk is and continue installation from there?

When I start system and hit F12. The computer loads all the files and gives
an error message just before final installation of one error or another.

Fatal error: One of the components that windows need to continue could not
be installed.
Data error: (CYCLIC REDUDANCY CHECK)
Error: performing In page operation

What does this mean, and how can I fix……………..headach!!!!

What are you installing? Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional?

Is this a clean install - or as I suspect - a repair installation?

You can download Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and integrate (sometimes
called slipstream) SP3 into the media and burn a new CD (for either your
Windows XP Professional or Home Edition.)

Typically a "Cyclic Redundancy Check" means a bad hard drive. I'd do a check
on that before you proceed any further.

As far as repair options are concerned, you should just try and get a hold
of an XP SP3 CD and do the repair from there. That way you don't need to
worry about any files being "missing" from the install because you won't be
using SP2 media to repair a SP3 installation.

Hope this helps! I know it's a bit late, but I just ran across your post.
