ive been trying to install the new version of msn messenger, but in order to
do this i must first install internet explorer 6.

i currently have Mozilla Firefox as my default web browser using windows
2000 and i think the original version of Internet Explorer could have been
possibly removed from my pc.

i downloaded ie6 but when it comes to installing itself it says 'setup was
unable to download the rquired components. please make sure you are connected
to the internet, or try to run set-up later.'

Everytime i have been connected to the internet and still it will not work.
Could someone try and help me out please?

i tried installing the updates already but it says i do not have internet
explorer 5 and so it redirects me to download internet exlplorer 6 again,
which again wont work. it seems to be that i dont have internet explorer
right now and so it wont let install anything. so in theory nothings gonna
work. how do i change my default web browser back to internet explorer
although i dont think i can get or have any version of internet explorer :s

(Courtesey of MVP Mike Burgess) Several of these are known to cause the
problems you're having:

1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?] Reset "Ad Blocking" and
"Cookie Control" to "medium" "Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS) [Enable Browser Privacy - enabled] Active Content -
"Allow All Scripts To Execute" Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit
encryption Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer" or contains entries
that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software that are blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

One possibility is that something is changing your User-Agent string.

Use this site to capture what is being received remotely as a User-Agent.
