since installing Win XP Pro, over win ME i cannot install
QuickBooks & Quicken Personall. It starts OK, but then
just dies. Any Ideas? Thanks

the usual advise for upgrading from 'me' is a clean fresh
install, as the upgrade style is a little bit buggy.

It may be to you, but not from a lot of people that I have more regard
for than 'anonymous'. The upgrade run from ME usually goes very well;
see Gary Woodruff's article on upgrading to XP at

But I can't speak for Quicken. Their installer may have different
versions for installing on XP or on ME, which are decidedly different
systems - there are versions of programs for 9x systems that do not run
well in XP. What I suggest is going to Start - All Programs -
Accessories, to run Program Compatibility Wizard. Browse that to the
Quicken Setup, and go on to say 'mode for Windows 98'. If it now
installs, you may have to use the wizard also to set up that mode for
the installed program
