Install Windows XP Pro from 1 CD

John

Hi,

I have bought a couple of ex lease computers which come with a Windows XP
licence but without a CD. The licence key is stuck to the computer. I have
used the one CD to install Windows XP on these computers and used the key
supplied for each computer. Is this a valid way of installing Windows XP? Or
does the CD contain the key used for activation?

Thanks,

John

The Product Key affixed to the computer will only work
with the computer manufacturer's Restore CD. You'll have
the contact the computer manufacturer and request a Restore CD.

And if I have bought 100 desktops from one manufacturer, to re-install the
operating system on one, can I use any disk from that manufacturer and enter
the appropriate Product Key, or do I have to find the disk that came with
the particular computer?

Thanks,

John

This is valid, Product Keys are not hard coded to individual CD's.

This will work just fine. The CD & Key are locked to a "type" rather than an
individual computer. (e.g. OEM keys must be used with OEM CDs, commercial
keys must be used with commercial CDs, Volume Licence keys only work with
Volume Licence CDs, etc).
