My XP won't boot. Says I need to install windows
root\system32\ntoskrnl.exe file. I have the file. I
burned it on a CD. How do I install it when windows
won't even open?

It is more likely to be a broken boot.ini file (that tells the boot process
where the other stuff is). Use bootcfg from the recovery console.
