I'm using Windows XP Home SP-2. I tried to "add/remove windows components" to
install Fax Services. During the install, I experienced the error at
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884018. I sort of worked my way thru it (I
thought) by cancelling/restarting the install over and over. The above
address advises to rebuild my security database to fix this problem. Seems
that document referenced on how to do the rebuild is about Windows 2000--the
instructions don't seem familiar while following them on my computer.

Anyway, once the install seemed to finish, I have an "empty" All
Programs/Accessories/Communications/Fax folder. When I look in the control
panel "add/remove windows components" list again, the Fax Services box is
unchecked. Seems it never really installed.

Anyone aware of a description of how to fix this in more laymen-like terms?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Microsoft Fax is the worst Fax app I have ever seen. It is just not worth
running the risk of messing up your system for the sake of that app, which
you'll almost certainly find inadequate as a faxing program. There are lots
of fax apps available that are ten times better and they are very cheap to
buy. I know its not the reply you wanted but it may save you time to look at
a better fax solution.

Thanks for the response Chelsea, but as it turned out, I was able to e-mailed
what I was first told I needed to fax.

I believe my bigger, most important issue is how do I fix the inability to
"add/remove windows components" as described in the link I originally posted.

Dose anyone have any suggestions on that?
