Adding fax component

I am trying to get my fax program to work. I have gone into the add/remove
programs, clicked add windows component and clicked on Fax Services. When it
tries to install the fax component I get an error message that says "Setup
cannot copy the file fxsclnt.exe". It tells me to insert my Windows XP Home
Edition Service Pack 2 CD. The only disc I have is for Service Pack 1. I am
guessing that somewhere along the way I upgraded to Service Pack 2 through
Microsoft's website, so how to I get the fax to work?

You can upgrade your CD to a SP2 version through a process known as
'slipstreaming'. Done properly, you'll have a bootable XP Home SP2 CD.
Done incorrectly, you should have a non-booting XP Home SP2 CD that will
still work for your purposes. If you can't burn a CD, you can still create
the correct files that you can use for the Fax install.

You need to have about 2 gig free drive space for all the files and
temporary files needed for the process. Download the SP2 full install,
which is one file, here:

http://tinyurl.com/5bobl
which should resolve to:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

it's about 250 megabytes, so you'll need a high-speed connection. If you
don't have one, download the file on a system that does have such a
connection, such as a friend, a business, or an internet cafe. Burn it
to CD and take it home.

Then follow the instructions here:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm

Basically, you copy the entire CD to the hard disk, run the SP2 update in a
certain way, and at the end you'll have a bootable XP SP2 CD.

If you can't burn the CD, this process will still create an i386 folder on
your hard disk that has the SP2 updates applied. For example, you might
have created it in d:\XPSp2\i386. So when you go to install the Fax
components and it asks for the CD, click on Browse and point it there.

Alternately, just locate the current i386 folder, and when the component
install asks for the CD, point it there.

Okay, I have followed the slipstreaming instructions. I copied my xp cd to
the "XP" folderdownloaded the SP2, downloaded and extracted the SP2 into
"XP-SP2", all with no problems. But when I try to follow the next step
(updating windows share)I get an error message that says "Failed to copy some
or all of the files necessary for integrated install. Please check that: a)
No network or copy errors occurred during the integration process b) The
format of the destination directory is correct. The files to be integrated
must reside in an i386 and/or ia64 or nec98 directory" I have double and
triple checked that I have followed the instructions exactly so I'm not sure
what else to do. I have also tried the other suggestion of finding the
original i386 directory and pointing the fax install there but I get a
message saying the target file is newer than the source file and do I want to
overide? If I say Yes, I get
"setup could not copy one or more files. The specific error code is 0x4b8"
