Cannot configure fax console in Windows XP

I have followed instructions to install the fax console but it is not being
loaded.
After going into Add and Remove Windows Components and selecting "fax
services", the installation goes through the sequence and tells me that it
has been installed but when attempting to configure the console, it shows
'empty'.
I've noticed that when clicking fax services, which reflects 4.2 MB in the
column, this is not being added to the total disc space required underneath.
If I click other items the number of Mb's is shown immediately, so it appears
that something is missing.
Can anybody offer any help on this?
Thanks

run services.msc
and see if fax service
is enabled.

keep in mind that it
requires a dedicated connection
to the phone line and the line
has to connect to your pc
or modem.

If you are using the regular phone
line for phone calls or internetting,
then you cannot send/receive
faxes at the same time.

the next thing is to
check that you have
a printer called "fax"

the fax printer is what
will be used by your programs
for sending faxes. If this
is disabled, then so is your
faxing capabilities.

Thanks for your help, but still no luck. The fax printer is not enabled,
which could be causing the problem.
When I go into 'Printers and Faxes', and select 'Set up faxing', a box comes
up which says 'Configuring components'. The computer then proceeds to attempt
to do this, but once it gets to 'Completing configuration of fax services'
the box shuts down without completing the task.
I have attempted to do this with a dedicated line so that shouldn't be the
problem.
Any other thoughts on this?
Once again, thanks for your help.

yeh,
you can check your cmos/bios
motherboard settings.

there is a setting to enable
or disabled a fax and
comm related settings.

check you motherboard manual
or your pc's website to get the
info on accessing you cmos
settings....

I have this problem too, and it seems to be more complicated then one would expect.

If i try add and remove it as a windows component it fails to copy the files from the cd, despite using numerous different copies and versions of cds.

BTW a sfc /scannow and repair installation do not help one bit.

The fax files are infact already on the computers, when you go to setup or configure it a fax is added however as it fails the fax is then removed from the printers fax folder.

This seems to be a common problem as found on google, however no one solves the problem.

WEll the computer which had the problem was taken back, so I can no longer work on this problem.

But if anyone comes up with an answer I be waiting eager to see what the problem was.
