Hi, I need an expert here
I have 2 HD on my puter one is partition C with xp pro + E as DATA no OS on
it. The other drive is also partition F Primary empty formatted fat32 + G
logical empty.
2 questions
1- I would like to add WIN98 to F to be able to finish some work in win98.
how do i do that from within xp . When i put my win98 cd in it says it has
to be installed in ms dos mode and if i used cmd it does not work
2- does it matter for G to be primary or logical to contain only data
available to all drive if possible. I know it need to be fat 32 in order for
xp to read it
thanks

Win98 needs to be on C drive, it takes a bit of work and a third party
boot loader to do otherwise.

I do have a old version of bootitng so what is the procedure with it
Thanks for your site i will have a better look later
See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Tips, Install 98/Me after XP is installed. If
your C: drive is NTFS, then you'll need to use a 3rd party boot manager,
such as BootIt Next Generation, www.bootitng.com or similar.

Install Bootit NG (upgrades are free, so get the newest one). You can create a bootable floppy or CD, your choice. You may need to adjust your BIOS settings to boot from the floppy or CD. It should automatically create a boot menu item for the XP installation.

Next, create a bootable floppy with CD-ROM support, you'll need this for the 98 install.

Reboot the computer and you'll see the BootIt NG screen. Click Maintenance, Boot Edit and add an entry for Win98. Point it to the partition where you're going to install Win98. In the far right, is a listing for drives and partitions. You may need to "Fill" in the partition you're going to install 98 to. You can optionally leave out the XP partition (if its NTFS, 98 can't read it anyway) and any other partitions you don't want visible to the 98 system.

Click the Floppy boot item in the "one time options" section. Insert the floppy and the 98 CD. Ok your way out of the menus and when you get back to the main BootIt Menu, click Resume. You'll go back to the boot menu. Choose 98 and away you go.

Once the 98 install is complete, the computer will boot straight into Win98. Insert the BootIt NG Floppy or CD and reboot. You'll choose the Re-activate BootIt option. Remove the CD and you're happily dual booting.

The installation disk for BootIt is the same whether you install from a floppy or CD. Get the latest version from www.bootitng.com You do need a small (16 meg) FAT or FAT 16 partition to install it to, but with BootIt's built-in tools (cancel install and go to Maintenance mode), you can resize any partition and create new ones. Or you can install to the FAT32 partition that you'll be installing Win98 on.

But in order to the boot menu items "menu" and all the features, you must first install it.

well I did made a mistake somewhere

I have just lost my data on my data disk while converting NTFS to FAT32
using BootitNG . The only thing left are a few AVG antivirus files. Getting
the error that the disk was improperly unmounted . Now is there a way the
get them back . I do have a back up but it is missing two weeks of new data.
.. I am using XP PRO. I have tried to repair with no success, tries chhdsk no
success. Had to reinstall PRO fresh . My C drive was window xp pro and my E
drive{now D ) was data only lost both drive in the process. They are there
because my antivirus is still scanning them all the way but how to retrieve
them

There is no conversion for NTFS to FAT32, or vice versa. You can only delete, create and copy partitions.
