Install USB Keyboard instead of PS/2

I have a PC with XP installed and a PS/2 keyboard and mouse. I have USB
ports and want to change the keyboard and mouse for a USB version. Is
it just a case of plugging them in instead of the PS/2 versions and
going though the plug and play wizard (I assume I'll get a driver with
the equipment if needed?)

Yes.. but. Don't throw away the PS/2 keyboard because not all systems will
recognise USB keyboards at the start of the boot cycle. This can leave you
in the situation of being unable to get into the BIOS, and on some systems
unable to trigger Safe Mode.

Test the response on your system.

Drivers for the basic keyboard will be included in Windows, and you won't
need to load anything for basic functionality. The keyboard may come with
extra buttons, in which case it will have software you'll need to load.

Yes. Simply Plug them in. In many cases if this is just a standard QWERTY
keyboard XP will pick up the drivers for it. If the keyboard has special
features such as hot buttons you will want to install the CD it comes with.

Many system bios have an option "enable legacy usb devices" this will allow
you to use the usb keyboard during startup
