Install stops at starting windows

I have that problem which others seems to be having with installing
windows xp 64. It is a notebook HP pavilian ZV6000.

It was working but after a hangup and rebooting, just get the screen
saying, start normally, safe mode, last good, etc.... clicking on anything
returning just a black screen.

I am trying the recovery disc. It goes thru the motions of loading
drivers and then get to the screen of saying starting windows, I never get
a chance to do repair, or any keyboard functions, I have let it sit there
for a couple hours, still nothing. there is nothing to
disconnect(hardware) or unable in the BIOS. it has a built HD check. Ran
it and says HD is fine.

It just hangs at the Starting windows screen. I think if I could to a cmd
screen I could run a chkdsk and that would probably fix things but I can't
get there. Are there boot disc available that boots to cmd prompt???

thanks in advance

My husband has just built a computer. I installed windows and it worked
okay. Next time I switched on there was no windows so I reinstalled, again
okay. Tody I switched on and I also get the windows then nothing, just a
blank screen. I tried opening from the different options and nothing. When
trying to open from safe mode with command prompt i do not know what the
prompt is.
Can anyone help? I am desperate
