Install still trying and cannnot stop

The situation is that someone tried to install a program
on a system (Windows 2000) and evidently did not complete
the install. The message comes up to put in a certain
disk but the person that has it did not leave the disk. I
would like to stop the install completely but it just
keeps coming back to the same message. I would appreciate
the help....

You don't actually say so but I presume you have rebooted
the machine, and it still demands this missing disk.

If so then you have to kill the unwanted startup task. Run
msconfig.exe (http://www.svrops.com/svrops/dwnldoth.htm),
identify the installation task, then prevent it from starting up.
