Error message trying to install Virtual Globe

S

surface9

All goes well until I get the following error message:

"unable to install SWFlash.ocx in the system registry"

Then it says that the installation was NOT completed successfully and
it just quits, leaving a bunch of partially installed files in the
program files folder.

I have no clue what the error message means, nor what I can do about
it.

I have erased the partially left files and tried re-installing,
several times, always with the same error message. Why would windows
2000 not be able to put SWFlash.ocx in the registry?

Any ideas?

I know this is an old message, but here's how I got Virtual Globe 1998 to work on my XP machine after getting the same error message as surface9, i.e., unable to register swflash.ocx.

The first thing to do is uninstall Flash Player. I also removed any lingering copies of swflash.ocx at this point. I had one left.

Next, try to install Virtual Globe 1998, and I found it went all the way to completion, and it works on my XP machine with a Samsung HD display.

You will need the latest FLash Player from Adobe and install this. Now, you will find, hopefully, that Virtual Globe still works.

Also, I found that I could copy the entire original CD onto a 1 gig flash drive, and was able to install from that. It runs much faster.

Hope this was of some use to you at this point in time.

Maybe some clues here.
