Install error: Setup cannot access this disk

Hi all

I'm having fun and games trying to install win2k server (booting from Win2k
install CD). The setup program can't find the hard disk and at the stage of
starting to copy files I get the disk reported as follows:

0 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on adpu160m

along ewith the message "Setup cannot access this disk".

I'm installing on on an old HP Brio PII/400, 320 Mb RAM. The PC currently
runs NT 4 Server with no problems. Also, if I boot using a Win9x startup
diskette and run fdisk, it sees the partitions on the HDD fine.

The machine has an Adaptec 29160N SCSI card (Win2k successfully seems to see
this - the "adpu160m"). The HDD is a 9 Gb Western Digital WDE9180 Ultra 2
SCSI HDD.

I have updated the PC's BIOS and the Adaptec card BIOS to the latest
version. When installing, I hit F6 and load the Adaptec drivers from the
Adaptec web site
(http://www.adaptec-uk.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?sess=no
&language=English+UK&cat=%2fProduct%2fASC-29160N).

The only thing I can think of is that it's a problem with the HDD not being
compatible. The Win2k HCL lists:

Western Digital WDE9180-0049A1 (SCSI)
Western Digital WDE9180-0049A2 (SCSI)

According to Western Digital's web site, the 0049 indicates an 80 pin drive
and mine is 68 pins.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Your suggestion was interesting because I had recently upgraded the
PC's memory. However, I reverted back to the original memory and got
the same error.

Any other ideas?
