Install a new DVD-RW in XP

My OS is WindowsXP Professional SP2 (NTFS).
I want to install a new DVD-RW, what will happen if XP detected a new
hardware? Should I perform the product activation again or install the XP
again?

Hi Jerry,
Should I perform the product activation again or install the XP again?

Neither will be required. Shut down, install the drive, then boot up. It
should be automatically detected, and you can then install the writing
software. Adding this drive would not trigger activation.

Unless the OP has made other changes in the past.

Yes, if this is a situation where the hardware changes have sufficiently
accrued, but that's unlikely with most home users (folk like us are the
exception). Even if it does trigger it, it should be only a minor bit to
re-activate - it still would not necessitate a repair.
