Hi! I use Power Point 2003 and system windows XP, and when I try to insert a
sound file in a powerpoint presentation, it doesn't play sound (actually, on
the right window, in Custom Animation, there is a vertical bare that shows
some activity, but no sound. I tried on another computer, and it was fine,
with the same files (no matter, mp3 ori tracks, (in the same folder with the
presentation, by the way). it worked, but on my computer no. I did it more in
the past, on my computer, also with this configuration, and it was no
problem. I don't understand what it is. I read about embeding the sound in
pps, but I can't pass the first step, palying inserted sound in ppt. Thank
you in anticipation for possible answers.

First, re-check your video file to make sure the videos play well in
Windows Media Player and the volume is not set to mute.
If these work ok, try the following methods:
Method 1:
Try to download and install some new codec from official:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/format/codecdow....
Go for codec references at: http://www.codecguide.com/
Method 2:
1. Put video files and the PowerPoint presentation in a same folder.
2. Re-insert these files to PowerPoint presentation.
3. Preview it.
Method 3:
Convert your PowerPoint presentation to Video use some third party
presentation tools, PPT to Video (http://www.ppt-to-dvd.com/ppt-to-
video-overview.html#149) for instance.
Method 4:
1. Display the slide you want to insert video.
2. Click the View menu in the menu bar, and then choose Toolbars in
its child menu, later Control Toolbox to let Control Toolbox
displayed. Choose More Controls which seems like hammer.
3. In the succeeding dialog box, choose Shockwave Flash Object. Your
cursor will change into a cross-hair - draw a rectangle anywhere on
screen
4. Right click the inserted Shockwave Flash control, and then click
Properties.
5. Click the Movie property > type the full drive path in the value
column (the blank cell next to Movie), including the file name (e.g.
C
\:a.swf) or URL (e.g. http://www.a.com/b.swf)
6. To make the Flash play automatically when the slide is displayed,
set the Playing property to True;
7. Finally close the Properties window and save your presentation.

First I tried to insert an mp3 file on my computer. It didn't work (on ppt,
when I tried to play). Then I tried with wma file. The same result. I
converted mp3 in wav. It workd with just one file, but in rest, no (same
files, from the same Cd, converted with the same program (CDex). This was on
my computer. Then I tried on ather computer, with mp3 ant it worked. I saved
ppt and pps (with the sound fiel linked, not embed - it was before to know
how to embed file) and I tried again on my computer - from stick, where I
saved my presentation and with the sound file in the same folder with ppt and
pps. It didn't worked. But it worked on the third computer, (but just 1 from
3 pps made in the same way). Very strange, isn'it? Surprisingly, on that
third computer, first variant made home didn't work, where it worked second
variant. There is no logic. By the way, the speakers werw always ON!
