cannot play sound in pps/ppt

I want to host a pps or ppt file whatever is appropriate to my web. The
pps/ppt has sound file linked, not embbed sound file because the file size is
too big. The pps/ppt can play well when I use power point 2002 to open it
from the web, but when someone using power point 2000 or lower versions, they
cannot open it. When they have been asked to save file to their computer, and
using power point viewer to open it, the sound file cannot play since the
link is broken.
How can I solve this problem when someone using lower version of power point
to browser the pps/ppt. Oh, they cannot open pps and can only save ppt to
their computers. I prefer pps to be hosted because it seems more secure.
Thanks for help.

Ah, but when you open it from the web, the links in the file are still pointing
to the sound files on your own PC. Try renaming the folder they're in or
otherwise make them unavailable, then try again. It probably won't work.

I doubt it's anything to do with the PPT version.

PPS or PPT makes no difference in that they're the same files, just different
file extensions. And either way the file's getting downloaded to their PCs
before it plays; either in a folder they choose if they download the file
deliberately or in the internet temp folder; either way, it's NOT secure in any
way.

Have you tried converting the PPT to HTML and posting that instead?

Hi Steve,

If I save file as web page, it will generate a foler as well as a .html
file. How can I incorporate these files into my web site and how it works.
Which file or link users need to click in order to browser the slide show?
Can you mention the procedures to set up?
Thanks for help.

Hi Aaron,

Basically you upload the html file and the whole folder to the same directory
on your site, then create a link to the html file.

Have a look at the pagese in this section of the PPT FAQ for more detailed

The problem is still not solved.

I have hosted the ppt as web page but when I view it from the web site,
neither power point 2000 nor 2002 can hear the sound (I have used 2
different computers to test it). In addition the animation as well as colour
sheme are not same as I have saved to the web. I have also tried to downgrade
the ppt to version 2000 and saved it as ppt ( not web page), sound files are
saved in the same folder as ppt, but no sound at all. I also tried to save
as pps using version 2002 and test it at the third computer which has version
2002 installed. It works fine and sound can play.

The problem is when someone is using version 2000 or earlier versions, how
can they browser the show is same as what I have hosted to the web site? If
using power point viewer, the sound cannot be played since it needs to
dowload the ppt to the computer before using the viewer.

I have read many articles about the sound problem of power point, it seems
that all of them cannot solve the problem, and many people have the sound
problems with power point, is it a drawback of power point that it still
needs to be develop? One thing is that embbed a sound to the ppt costs much
of the size because it must save as WAV. It is impossible to save a sound
file has 20+ mb.

If you converted the PowerPoint presentation to web pages, PowerPoint's not used
to view it, just your web browser. If we're to understand the problem, we'll
need a *specific* description of what you've done. You're there watching you do
it; we're not. You have to be our eyes and ears.

Posting a URL to your site might help also.
