PPS or PPT

I receive many PPS files, and they always play fine on my machine. When I
make a PPS, it always default saves as a PPT. I know I can save it as a
slide show, but I don't know what makes the difference. Which is better for
mailing it to other computers?

The only difference, is how it opens. PPT opens in the edit mode, and ..PPS opens in the slideshow mode. For mailing purposes, I would use the ..PPS version

When PowerPoint sees a pps file it opens it in show mode and when it sees a
ppt file in edit mode. However pps and ppt files are the same in terms of
size and content - you can even rename a ppt to a pps (NOTE not a pptx (2007)
to a .ppsx). Which is best depends on how you want it to open.

Ah, that explains why it always opens up in the application when I send a
PPT!
Thanks!
