Insert > Duplicate Slide produces an identical slide.

Using the slide sorter short cut menu or slide short cut menu to copy and
paste a slide may not produce the exact same slide. The background color
doesn't get transferred to the new slide.

Any feedback? Thanks!

When you paste a slide in slide sorter view or the slide thumbnail pane, the
slide inherits its template from the previous slide in the list. If the
previous slide has a different background, that's why the slide doesn't
maintain its background -- it's taking on the background of the previous
slide. Immediately after you paste, you should get a paste options button
that allows you to "keep source formatting" so you can set things back
again.

When you duplicate a slide, PPT adds the dupe immediately after the
original, so there is no background/template change.

Make sense?

Echo,

Thanks for telling me "keep source formatting." I see it now. What you
said sounded logical. But I think the scenario I had was different from
yours. The slide I pasted was RIGHT AFTER the one I copied from. The new
slide had the same template but NOT the same color scheme. As soon as I
click "keep source formatting," I can achieve the same effect as insert
duplicate. Appreciate your pointing out the paste options button.

Wow, I don't know what would be causing that to happen, but I'm glad to hear
the "keep source formatting" is a good resolution for you!
